Abstract

Controlling heating systems; regulation, automatic.-- A load circuit, principally for arc welding, comprising an adjustable inductance for current regulation, is associated with a circuit containing capacity so that current changes in the welding or load circuit are accompanied by corresponding changes in the voltage applied to the capacity circuit thus improving the power factor at all stages of regulation. An interrupter may be added to open the capacity circuit when there is no current in the load circuit. A transformer 4 supplies welding electrodes 2, 3 through a tapped inductance 7, and a transformer 15, coupled to a condenser 14, is so connected to the inductance that the latter acts as an auto-transformer and progressively increases the voltage applied to the transformer 15 as the inductance is removed from the arc circuit by the switch 13. An interrupter 6, 4 closed by the arc circuit current, is included in the primary circuit of the transformer 15.
