Abstract

542,032. Valve generating circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. June 20, 1940, No. 10610. Convention date; June 30, 1939. [Class 40 (v)] In circuits for generating saw-tooth currents in an inductive load, particularly those of the kind described in Specification 400,976 in which the return stroke is effected by virtue of the reactive properties of the load which is shunted by a damping tube, the wave-form is improved by varying the impedance of the damping tube in accordance with the output of the generator. The current from the valve 1 divides between the load 2 and the tube 3, the impedance of which is varied by the voltage across a resistance 6 through which the total alternating current output of the valve passes. The current through the tube 3 may be controlled by a biasing voltage developed across the network 13, 14. In modification (1) the valve 1 may be connected through a transformer to the load and damping tube, the impedance of the latter being determined (a) by the voltage across a resistance in the primary circuit of the transformer, Figs. 2 and 5 (not shown), or (b) by the voltage across a resistance in the cathode circuit of the valve, Fig. 4 (not shown) ; (2) the damping tube may lie across the primary circuit of the transformer and the load in the secondary circuit, Fig. 3 (not shown); (3) the load may be connected directly to the valve, the damping tube being connected through a transformer, Fig. 5 (not shown). The valve 1 may be supplied with an input voltage of a slightly logarithmic wave form.
