Abstract

502,830. Valve circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Sept. 27, 1937, No. 26085. Convention date, Sept. 26, 1936. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] To produce a current or voltage of non- sinusoidal waveform in a reactive or capacitative load Lo, a voltage recurring at a given frequency is impressed on the load, which exhibits resonance at the fundamental frequency and at least one harmonic. The deflecting coil Lo of a cathode-ray tube is in the output circuit of an amplifier 9 and is shunted by resonant circuits x, y, z. The input of the amplifier is connected to a generator 1 of impulses which produce a saw-tooth current in the coil. A damping circuit 17 is also shunted across the coil. One of the series resonant circuits is tuned to a frequency between the fundamental frequency and the second harmonic, a second between the second and third harmonics, and the circuits are so tuned relatively to the deflecting coil that the combined circuits exhibit parallel resonance at the fundamental frequency and its second harmonic. The periodic impulses drive the valve 9 from plate-current saturation to plate-current cut-off. The circuit is also used for applying a saw-tooth voltage to deflecting-plates through a step-up transformer, Fig. 3 (not shown). The generator 1 is described in Specification 442,334.
