Abstract

783,124. Discharge tube amplifying circuits. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Jan. 17, 1956 [April 25, 1955], No. 11826/55. Class 40 (6). In a power amplifier in which a wave GV, Fig. 2, of fundamental frequency F is applied to a discharge tube 3, Fig. 1, biased to cut-off CU, the output load 6 being resonant at the fundamental frequency F, a further resonant circuit 8 is provided tuned to at least one harmonic such that the harmonics in the voltage and current at the output of the tube are different. The circuit 8 is resonant at the first harmonic of the fundamental which is not present in the input wave and with a square wave GV the circuit 8 includes a circuit tuned to the second harmonic 2F and preferably a circuit tuned to a frequency 4F. The anode voltage and current follow the curve AV, AC giving the output voltage OV. When the input wave is such as to cause the tube 3 to conduct'for one-third of a cycle the circuit is tuned to a frequency 3F, Fig. 6 (not shown).
