Abstract

189,135. British Thomson - Houston Co., Ltd., (Assignees of Hull, A. W.). Nov. 15, 1921, [Convention date]. Frequency, changing.- In a two electrode thermionic valve for use as a frequency doubler and amplifier, one of the electrodes is made of helical form, and is adapted to carry a current of sufficient magnitude to produce a magnetic field parallel with the axis of the cathode capable of suppressing the discharge between the electrodes. A magnetic field due to an external winding may be superposed on that due to the electrode. The cathode 7 is heated by the alternating or variable current to be amplified, and the anode 6 is connected with the cathode through a battery 11 and the primary of a transformer 26, the secondary of which is connected with the cathode of a second valve 27. The primary may be shunted by a variable condenser 28. Each valve acts as a frequency-doubler, so that the frequency in the output circuit 31 of the valve 27 will be four times that of the input circuit 20 of the valve 25. Specification 182,516, [Class 37, Electricity, Measuring &c.], is referred to.
