[Also in Group XXVIII] The chassis 10, Fig. 3, of a swing frame grinder comprising an endless abrasive band 16 mounted on a motor driven pulley 17 and an idling pulley 15, Fig. 2, is channel sectioned and has its open front covered by a withdrawable plate 52 mounted on studs 53. The work contacting pulley 17 is of compressed canvas laminations and is driven by an electric motor 13 through a pulley 23, a tensioned belt 22.and a pulley 21 on the contact wheel shaft. Accurate tracking of the band 16 is maintained by manual adjustment of the inclination of the idling pulley axle 32, Fig. 5, relative to the general plane of the band run, and is effected by rotating a handwheel 46, a rod 44 and a screw shaft 40 to displace a block 38 and an arm 33 thereof projecting from a king-pin 31 carrying the axle 32 and being itself mounted on a fork 30. Band tension is varied by a hand lever 47, a push rod 48 and a lever 29 pivoted about a pin 28 and carrying the fork 30 and idling wheel axle 32. For universal movement the chassis 10 is suspended by a swivel eye 72 at one end of an L- shaped member 71, to the other end of which is pivoted one end of a stem projecting through the cover 52 and having its other end pivoted to the chassis about a longitudinal axis.
