595,115. Grinding crank pins. BEECH, W. R. Jan. 19, 1946, No. 1859. [Class 60] A machine for the grinding of crank-shafts, eccentrics or the like is characterised by a driving wheel having a resilient tyre thereon, a grinding-wheel in frictional contact with said driving wheel, a pivotally-mounted support for said driving wheel and grinding-wheel, so that the grinding and driving wheels will follow the throw of the crank or the like, a member adapted to engage the crank-pin or the like to retain same in contact with the grinding-wheel and means for setting the cut on the grinding- wheel. Crank-shaft 3 is mounted between centres carried by a slide 4 movable on machine bed 4<1> ; a grinding-wheel 7 is mounted at the end of a beam 5 pivoted at 10 to links 6 pivotally secured to a carrier 2 ; the carrier 2 has wheels 24 running on machine frame 1, movement axially of the crank-shaft for positioning or traversing being effected by a hand wheel 25 and gear 27 meshing with a fixed rack ; an electric motor 13 secured to the carrier drives, through shaft 12 (which forms the pivot for the links 6) and pulley 11 secured thereon, a pulley integral with wheel 8, the resilient tyre 30 of which frictionally engages the periphery of the grinding-wheel to drive it. The beam carries leaf springs 22 engaging the free ends of links 23 pivotally secured to the carrier 2, this arrangement counteracting the weight of the grinding-wheel. The other end of the beam has pivotally secured thereto a lever 15 adjustable by means of screw 19 co-operating with the guard to put on cut ; the lever carries a V-block 17 embracing the crank-pin 16, a clamping lever 20 being operated by means of a hand wheel 21. The resilient tyre 30 may be a pneumatic one. Specification 595,114 is referred to.
