[Class 60] A grinding-machine comprises a carriage on which the work is supported for rotational movement and a second carriage on which a face grinding wheel is journalled for rotation about a substantially parallel axis, one of the carriages being adjustable relatively to the other to bring the axes into accurate parallelism whereby the wheel contacts the end face of the work both above and below its rotational axis. As shown, the work is mounted in a work holder 42 driven by a motor, both supported on arcuate tracks 35 on a carriage 5 mounted on transverse ways 3, 4 by bearings 6, 7, 8. The bearings 8, comprise rollers carried on spring- influenced levers and engage one lateral face of the way 4. The bearings 7 comprise cartridges with an endless array of balls one run of which engages walls 18, 19 on the other lateral face of the way. The bearings 6 comprise similar cartridges mounted on a pivot 15 having an eccentric part 30 and carrying a plate 31 by which the eccentric may be adjusted to raise or lower the carriage 5 pivotally about the way 4 and so bring the axis of the work into exact parallelism with the axis of the grinding-wheel 153.
