[Class 60] A machine for grinding the ends of coiled springs comprises a pair of vertically spaced grinding wheels mounted for rotation about a vertical axis and having opposed axially directed grinding faces, a feed member adapted to receive the coiled springs successively and advance them so that they pass successively between the grinding wheels with their upper and lower ends in grinding engagement with the said faces thereof, and guide means for engaging the upper and lower ends of the springs and registering the said ends with the said faces of the upper and lower grinding wheels respectively, the wheels being disposed the requisite distance apart to receive the springs therebetween and grind the ends thereof to the requisite extent, the lower guide means being such as to determine the position of the springs in the vertical direction on reception of these in the feed member. The grinding wheels 43, 44 are driven by electric motors 24, 25 vertically adjustable on plate 13 by means of screws and hand wheels 34, 35. The springs are placed by the operator in apertures 21, provided with exchangeable bushes 22, in a slowly rotating plate 18. The lower ends of the springs rest on a plate 50 flush with the face of the lower grinding wheel; an upper member 57 has a bevelled part 58 leading to a part flush with the face of the upper grinding wheel. The ground springs are discharged through a shoot 59. To vary the spacing of the axis of the grinding wheels from the axis of the plate 18, the plate 13 is adjustable by screws 47. A suction device 65 is connected by duct 67 to a hood 68. A diamond facing tool 69 is carried by a pivoted arm 70 which can be swung so that the opposite ends of the tool true the opposed faces of the grinding wheel.
