Abstract

626,225. Profiling grinder. ANGERBY, E. A., CARLSSON, S. G., and BLOM, S. G. Nov. 11, 1946, No. 33496. [Class 60] In a profiling grinder in which the grinding wheel is reciprocated and the work is moved by means of a feeler mounted on a pantograph and cooperating with a template, the work support and template support are mounted on a common carrier adjustable relative to the grinding wheel. The machine frame 1 carries a grinding head on which the grinding wheel can reciprocate up and down; the grinding head is pivoted at 4 so as to be adjustable about an axis parallel to that of the grinding wheel, and is also pivoted at 5 so as to be adjustable about an axis at right angles to that of the grinding wheel. The machine frame 1 also carries a vertically adjustable table 3 on which are mounted crossed slides 9, 10 adjustable respectively by handles 7, 8. The slide 10 carries the lower slide 11 of further crossed slides, the upper slide 13 of which is provided with a holder 16 for securing the work and is connected at 15 to a pantograph 14 fixed at 17 to the slide 10; mounted at the free end 18 of the pantograph is a holder for a feeler which co-operates with a template secured on a table 12 carried by the slide 10. The holder is rotatably mounted in the pantograph and is connected by links 20 with a pivotally mounted disc 18a which is connected by links 20a with a plate 21 arranged at point 15 and rigidly connected to the slide 13; owing to the crossed slides 11, 13 the work always moves so that any line thereon remains unchanged in direction, and the linkage 20, 20a ensures corresponding motion of the feeler, the operative part of which has a shape corresponding to that of the grinding wheel. The apparatus is stated to be applicable to grinding a clearance angle on a turning tool. Specifications 463,767 and 626,226 are referred to.
