[Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iii)] [Also in Group XXIII] Lathes; milling machines.- In a copying machine such as described in Specification 469,173, in which work-pieces and a pattern, e.g. an air screw blade, are mounted on a table which reciprocates beneath cutters and a follower moved step by step transversely of the table between each reciprocation thereof, the cutters and follower are pivotally mounted so as to be angularly adjustable with reference to the work in order that the non- cutting extreme end of the cutter is not brought into contact with the work. The machine comprises a table B, carrying the model 3 and work pieces 4, reciprocated on a bed A and reversed at the end of each traverse by arms 31 actuating a reversing switch 32. The cutters 25 and follower 26 are carried on a frame 9 pivoted to a carriage 7 which is given a step-by-step feed between the traverses of the table by mechanism actuated by a hand wheel 27. The carriage 7 slides on a beam 6 adjusted vertically on a gantry by a handwheel 28. Each cutter 25, having its own driving motor 18, is mounted on a bed 14 angularly adjustable on a face plate 12 adjustably secured to the front crossbar 11 of the frame 9. The follower 26 is also carried by a bed 20 pivoted to the bar 11 and having an arm 2 adjustably connected to a face plate 13 dependent from a link 17 which connects arms 15 on the beds 14, one of the arms 15 being provided with an operating handle 16 by which simultaneous adjustment of the beds 14, 20 is secured. Turning.-The root ends of the pattern and work piece may be mounted in a triple chuck 34, Fig. 2, operable by a motor 35 so that these ends of the work pieces may be shaped by turning.
