Abstract

668,946. Mining-machines. JONES, W. D., (EICKHOFF, GES., (GEB.).) C.C. Feb. 14, 1950. No. 3695/50. Class 68 (i). An endless chain cutter machine has an upper and lower jib 27, 24 between the outer ends of which is disposed a rotary cutter bar 19, only one cutter chain i.e. that on jib 27 is driven directly from the shaft of the machine cutter head 1, the cutter bar transmitting a drive from this chain to the chain of the other jib 24. The rotary cutter bar is mounted on a shaft which may be fixed or pivotally mounted in the outer plates of the two cutter jibs, and when said shaft is pivotally mounted in said jibs either one of the jibs may lead the other in the direction of cutting, the directly driven jib pivoting about the shaft of the cutter head whilst the other jib is connected to the motor unit by a link, the rotary bar cutter being at the apex of the triangle formed by the jibs and the machine when seen in plan. The bottom jib may be upturned adjacent the machine and be provided like the upper jib with guide plates 26, 28 to deflect the gummings onto the face conveyer.
