Abstract
687,671. Endless-chain mining-machines. ANDERSON, A., and ANDERSON, BOYES & CO., Ltd. Aug. 27, 1951 [July 13, 1950], No. 17545/50. Class 68(i) A shearing jib assembly of a longwall mining-machine comprises a pair of chaincarrying jibs 1, 2 pivoting about parallel axes to swing in a common plane and' a further cutting jib 5 disposed between said jibs 1, 2. The axes are coincident with shafts 3, 4, each shaft having secured thereon one of the chain sprockets of jib 5 and the adjacent sprocket at the lower end of either jib 1 or 2, which are rotated about said axes by fluid actuated piston cylinder units 15, 17, and 16, 18 acting on arms 11, 12 secured to the jibs 1, 2. The shearing jib assembly is mounted between two machine units 9, 10 each unit having a gear head 7, 8, an undercutter jib, a loader conveyer, at least one driving motor and haulage mechanism, the two units being aligned in the direction of cutting with the undercutting jibs 19, 20 adjacent each other and with the sneer jib assembly extending between the outermost ends of said jibs and supported by a bracket 6 secured to the gear heads. Depending on the direction of cutting a shift drive 22 to the shear cutter assembly is provided from the rearmost gear head 7 to the outer sprocket of the jib 1, whilst the undercutter of said gear head is converted into a loader by the substitution of paddles 21 for picks. The undercutter jibs adjacent the gear heads are upwardly inclined and over cutters may be provided on the gear heads.
