677,065. Endless-chain mining-machines. USKSIDE ENGINEERING CO., Ltd., and WOOD, J. W. Jan. 18, 1950. [Jan. 19, 1949] No. 1547/49. Class 68 (i). An endless-chain cutter mining-machine comprises a machine unit composed of a haulage means 11, driving means 12, cutter housing 17 and a gear housing 40 whilst a cutter jib 15, disposed in a vertical plane, projects at right angles from the cutter housing and is provided with a groove 18 on either side, in one of which, depending on which side of the unit the jib projects, runs a cutter chain 14. Behind the jib is an inclined platform 31 formed on a fixed plate held in the rear chain groove by fingers and having formed at the leading edge one portion of a knuckle joint, the other portion being on the inclined plate of the platform. This plate is caused to oscillate angularly about the knuckle joint by oscillating levers acting at the rear of the plate, the levers being on a shaft that is given an angular oscillation by an eccentric positioned in the gear housing. This movement of the plate, on which are formed ribs 48 provided with breaker teeth 49, moves the severed coal on to a transverse conveyer 54 secured behind and driven from the gear housing 40. The jib is of such a shape that the chain cuts out a core from the face and breaking teeth are formed on the inside of the jib frame below the upper run of the cutting chain. A gummer, either of a rotary impeller or a scraper conveyer, is provided within the housing 17 adjacent the jib which is transversely adjustable within said housing so as to take up any slack in the cutting chain.
