Abstract
647,873. Mining-machines. ANDERSON, A., and ANDERSON; BOYES-& CO., Ltd. Jan. 28, 1949, No. 2399. [Class 68 (i)] A longwall mining-machine comprises a main unit 10 consisting of a haulage unit 19, motor unit 16 and a gear head 20 on which is mounted a main rotary cutting wheel 11 and articulated either to the rear of the gear head or to the motor unit is a loader unit 12 incorporating a transversely operating conveyer 13 and a supplementary rotary cutting wheel 14 which is vertically adjustable with respect to the conveyer. The drive to the conveyer and the cutting wheel 14 may be from a motor 17 on the loader unit or alternatively from a motor mounted on the main unit either above or alongside the motor 16. Ploughs 24 or reciprocatory cutter means are mounted behind the main cutter wheel 11 to remove upstanding ridges left on the floor. Suitable guide means direct the cut mineral onto the conveyer which can be transversely extended as desired. Specification 647,870 is referred to.
