Abstract
647,870. Mining-machines. ANDERSON, A., and ANDERSON, BOYES & CO., Ltd. Nov. 29, 1948, No. 30881. [Class 68 (i)] A machine for mining mineral is provided at floor level with undercutting means such as an endless chain cutter 10 or a reciprocatory bar cutter, and positioned above this undercutting means are two sets of rotary cutting wheels 12, 13, each set being spaced along a driven shaft 14, 15. The shaft 15 is carried by a pivoted arm 21 mounted on the machine and is thus adjustably positioned above the shaft 14 so as to allow for the variation in the height of the seam. As the peripheral picks of each cutting wheel cut in the mineral during the advance of the machine, upstanding ridges are left between the wheels and these ridges are broken down by laterally projecting picks or wedge elements on the wheels located radially inwards from their peripheries. The comminuted mineral is carried to the face conveyer by a screw conveyer 16 or by a pair of screw conveyers mounted parallel to one another.
