Abstract

872,736. Mineral-mining machines. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. July 30, 1957 [Aug. 2, 1956; Oct. 15, 1956; Dec. 4, 1956], Nos. 23885/56, 31361/56 and 37028/56. Class 68(1). Extending laterally of the body structure 7 of a mineral-mining, cutter loader that can move along a conveyer 6, is a jib 3 having at the outer end a pair of vertical cutter drums 1, 2 that can be rotated in either direction and are positioned one above and one below the jib so that the mineral can be mined over the full height of the seam. Preferably two such pairs of cutter drums are mounted at either side of the outer end of the jib about which may circulate an endless cutter chain. The jib may be so shaped that pre-cutting of the face may occur before it is attacked by the, or the leading, of the pair of cutter drums. Cutter bars 21 may also be mounted on the machine for pre-cutting of the face. Six preferred embodiments are described in detail. Specification 842,614 is referred to.
