Abstract

706,452. Rotary trench excavators. NEUE BAUMASCHINEN GES. Jan. 1, 1952, No. 102/52. Class 68(1) A trench with a rounded bottom and sloping sides is cut by an excavator unit 2, 7 which is supported from a mobile base 14 by booms 16, 19, link 22, hoist cable 21, shaft 25 and supports 30. The excavator unit consists of a rotary cutter 2 and two disc cutters 7, the cutting edges of the latter being located in planes parallel to the direction of motion of the excavator and tangential to the cutting circle of the rotary cutter. The rotary cutter 2 is mounted at the end of a downwardly inclined shaft 1 which is in a plane parallel to the direction of movement of the base 14 and also has secured thereto a conveyer screw 3, the pitch of the screw increasing towards the rear at the same time as the diameter decreases, and a centrifugal ejector 38. The cutter head is encased from above by a hood 6 and the conveyer and ejector by casings 5 and 4. The disc cutters 7 are rotatably supported on plates 39 which can be adjusted about axes 39<SP>1</SP>. The drive to the various units is from a motor on the base through suitable shaft, gearing and chain drives. In a modified form the rotary cutter 2, conveyer 3 and centrifugal ejector are mounted on separately driven co-axial shafts.
