Abstract

762,624. Mineral-mining machines. MAVOR & COULSON, Ltd. Aug. 25, 1955 [June 14, 1954], No. 17360/54. Class 68 (1). In a mineral-mining machine a series of disc cutters 22 are disposed to one side of the body 10 of the machine on a driven shaft 23 carried by, and raised and lowered by, an arm 24, 25, 26 that can be rotated about trunnion bearings 29, 30 on the body 10 by an hydraulically actuated, double-acting jack 50, 51 connected between the arm and the body, whilst a roof cutter, preferably an endless cutter chain-carrying jib 57, 58 is mounted on a telescopic turret 55 on the body 10 to extend across the working plane of the discs. The discs and jib are so mounted on the body that they can be slewed, if required, from one side of the machine as required. Sets of discs of various sizes are provided.
