Abstract

The boring head of a tunnelling machine comprises a rotatably driven, cutting tool and loading scoop-carrying ring structure 2 having another cutting tool-carrier 3 rotatably mounted within it to extend beyond it and be driven by it through epicyclic gearing 14. The scoops 22 of the structure 2 discharge optionally onto an endless conveyer or into a bucket wheel feeding into a pneumatic conveyer depending upon which of these latter conveyer assemblies are associated with the head.
