1278347 Tunnelling machines STREETERS PLANT HIRE Ltd 19 April 1971 [17 June 1970] 29347/70 Heading E1F A tunnelling machine comprises excavating jaws 6 pivotally mounted in a tubular shield 1 and operated by rams 9. The shield has a cutting edge 2 and has rams for advancing the shield by pressing on a tunnel lining, Fig. 3 (not shown). The jaws have teeth 8 but these may be replaced by other cutters such as discs, and spoil may be removed manually or by a self-loading endless belt or drag bucket conveyor.
