Abstract

1356808 Excavator buckets L G A JORDAN 5 July 1972 [12 July 1971] 32575/71 Heading E1F Each of teeth 24 located on the back 13 of a bucket is centred on the longitudinal axis of the gap 25 between the immediately offset teeth 11a on the front digging edge of the bucket and is of a width at least comparable with that of the gap so that these teeth 24 remove the ridges left by the front teeth on the bottom of an excavation when the bucket is tilted backwards and retraversed over the bottom of the excavation. In one embodiment of the bucket there is provided in the bottom of the bucket just ahead of the teeth 24 a gap 21 so that material freed by the teeth 24 can pass into the bucket. Associated with the gap is a closure plate 22 that due to gravity or to spoil in the bucket will normally move to close the slot. The teeth 24 may be mounted on a frame securable, preferably detachably and/or pivotally, to the bucket. The teeth 24 may be replaced by a single blade.
