Class 68(1). in a coal-cutting machine having a series of superposed, registering jibs for pick-carrying endless chassis 10, 11, 12 and 13 at least one jib is longer and wider than an adjacent jib and can be adjusted vertically with respect to the adjacent jib so that when the jibs are as close as possible to each other the picks of the smaller jib cutter chain 11 will work in an endless path which rests within the endless path of the picks of the larger jib cutter chain 12.
