Class 68(1) In an endless chain coal-cutting machine of the type, as disclosed in Specification 682,603, in which the universal jointed links of the cutter chain are led from a drive sprocket into guides in a back hangar bracket 18 and then over curved inclined guides 13 into guides on a jib 11 situated at a different level from that of the first-mentioned guides, the means 19 locking the jib post 12 to the back hanger bracket is so disposed as to be entirely within the width of the kerf 14, 15 formed by the chain. The guides 13 are pivotally attached at 21 and 22 to the back hanger bracket and the jib post respectively so as to permit the jib, when the locking means are released, to be moved into the plane of the sprocket. The jib post 11 is provided with an extension 12 curved similarly to the guides and lying between them, the surface 16 thereof abutting a complementary surface 17 on the hanger bracket when the jib is in the operative position.
