Abstract
723,106. Mineral-mining machines. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS), Ltd. June 26, 1952 [July 2, 1951], No. 15620/51. Class 68(1). A mineral-mining machine, mounted on a face conveyer for movement therealong by rope or chain haulage means, has two substantially coplaner shearing cutter means so arranged that the leading shearing cutter means produces a lower cut than the trailing shearing cutter means irrespective of the direction of travel of the machine. In one embodiment there is mounted, at either end 2, 6 of the machine chassis 1 and to be rotated by suitable means about a shaft 3B, 4B, a jib 3, 4 about which circulates an endless pick-carrying chain driven by a sprocket 3A, 4A on the shaft 3B, 4B. Co-axial with and driven by the idler sprocket of the jib may be a drum or disc cutter 11, 12, and with the sprocket 3A, 4A a cutter bar 13. The detached mineral is loaded by a plough 5 provided at one or at both ends of the chassis 1. In other embodiments the jibs may be replaced by cutter discs or wheels, and means may be provided between the jib and an adjacent face conveyer so that the cutting means are presented to the face at an angle. The jibs may be mounted on telescopic turrets.
