813,706. Mineral-mining machines; tunnelling machines. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. July 26, 1957 [Aug. 1, 1956], No. 23733/56. Classes 68(1) and 85 A machine for ripping the face at a road head in a mine consists of driven cutter drums or discs 11 mounted along an arm 10 of a length equal to or greater than half the width of the face being ripped and swingable about a horizontal axis in a plane parallel to the face to be ripped. The drums may have driving motors situated therein or may as with the discs be driven from a motor 22 and gearing extending through the arm 10. The outer end of the arm is guided by an arch 12 on which is supported a cable system for swinging the arm. Conveyers 20, 21 remove mined mineral.
