Abstract
846,013. Mineral-mining machines. HOY & CO., Ltd., A. May 29, 1958 [March 5, 1957], No. 7297/57. Class 68(1). A mineral-mining machine has a cutter chaincarrying loop frame or jib 20 that can be pivoted about a horizontal shaft 14 supported in cantilever fashion from the side of the body 13 of the machine at right angles to the direction of advance of the machine. The mining cycle consists of swinging the jib down until the leading portion is at floor level, advancing the machine a short distance towards the buttock of a face 12 &c., and then swinging the jib upwards to the level of the roof to sever from the buttock a large block of mineral, which collapses or passes through the space bound by the jib on to suitable loading means 30, 31. The links of the cutter chain are connected by universal joints such as described in Specification 699,636, which is referred to.
