732,519. Coal-mining machines. EICKHOFF MASCHINENFABRIK UND EISENGIESSEREI, GEB. Sept. 2, 1953 [Sept. 6, 1952; Feb. 26, 1953], No. 24222/53. Class 68(1). A coal-mining machine has two or more laterally-projecting, vertically-adjustable, cutter bars 13, 14 and collapsible cutter-loader structures 15, 16. As the machine is guided in its movement along a face 1 by a conveyer 2, the collapsed leading structure 16 moves in the space 3 between the face and the conveyer, whilst the erected trailing structure 15 strips the coal from the seam, to a depth equal to that of the cuts made by the cutter bars 13, 14 and loads it onto the conveyer. A cutter bar or a pair of cutter bars may be mounted on a single or double-arm lever rotatable about a horizontal axis at right angles to the direction of motion of the machine. The leading ends 26, 27 of the structures 15, 16 clear and load on to the conveyer any loose coal on the floor between the conveyer and the face to be mined, whilst ramps 24 and 25 are provided to remove the gummings from the cutter bars 13, 14.
