602,682. Mining-machines. LOGAN, W. A. Nov. 8, 1945, No. 29867. [Cass 68 (i)] A mining-machine includes at least one main drum mounted on vertically movable bearings and running on the mine floor, at least one yertically movable upper drum, and a jibsupporting lever, said lever being so linked to the bearings of the main drum or drum and to the upper drum or drums that the weight on said lever urges the main and upper drums apart. As shown, main drums 1 are supported in bearings 2 slidable in frame members 3, and are driven by a motor 4 within one of the drums ; upper drums 5 are mounted in a carriage 6 movable in frame members 3. Toggle links 7, 8 are pivoted to the carriage 6 and bearings 2 respectively, their joint pin 9 being guided in a slot 10 and connected to a second toggle 11, 12, the joint pin of the latter being linked to the short arm of a lever 14 pivoted at 15 ; the long arm of the lever 14 supports the weight of the cutter jibs, the weight tending to straighten the toggles and thereby press the drums 1, 5, against the floor and roof respectively. The cutter jibs may include a shearing jib, and over- and under-cutting jibs. The drums 5 may also be spring-urged upwardly.
