Abstract
558,971. Mineral mining machines, chain cutter type. MOORE, M. S., and MINING ENGINEERING CO., Ltd. July 25, 1942, No. 10420. [Class 68 (i)] A mining machine includes a shearing.jib 3 carrying a cutting chain, a transverse conveyer 1 for loading the mined material and reversible convener means 10 for loading on to the conveyer 1 the cuttings brought out by said cutter chain. Loading bars 2 are provided on each side of the conveyer 1. The shearing jib is of substantially L-shape and is detachably secured to the frame of conveyer 1 by bolts 5. The cuttings conveying means 10 includes a gear case 9 with a half coupling 8 adapted to be connected through a shaft with the drive means of the conveyer 1; the gear case 9 is normally supported in the shearing jib by a projection 17 and by a shaft 18 engaging the cutting chain drive sprocket 7. A swing bar 12 is pivoted at 11 and 'at its free end has a bracket 13 swingable about a vertical axis 14, the bracket 13 supporting a hinge bolt 16 pivoted about a vertical axis 15. The hinge bolt 16 pivotally and slidably supports the gear case 9. To reverse the shearing jib, the drive shaft for the half coupling 8 is removed, and the gear case 9 is slid to position I, Fig. 2, to disengage projection 17 and shaft 18; the gear case 9. is then swung on bolt 16 into position II, Fig. 2, and the bolt 16 is next swung about axes 14, 15, into position III, Fig. 2. The gear case is then slid forward to position IV, Fig. 3, to re-engage projection 17 and shaft 18, the bolts 5 are removed, and the swing bar 12 and shearing jib are swung into the position V, Fig. 3, and the bolts 5 inserted to secure the shearing jib. To enable the height of the shearing jib to be varied, or to adjust the cutter chain, the upper portion 19 of the jib is carried by a quadrant 20 pivoted at 21 and adjusted by a worm gearing 22; the jib may also be slidable horizontally on a guide on the jib frame.
