[Class 78 (iv)] [Also in Group XXI] A loader for use in mining operations is arranged to work behind a cutting-machine in either direction and has at each end a degummer, or cuttings-removing means, and means for coupling a power drive to operate the adjacent de-gummer and the loading mechanism. A cutter 1 with a swingable undercutting jib 2 and, if desired, an overcutting jib 3, pivotally supports brackets 7 which may be bolted to either end of the loader and carry a motor 4, reduction gear 5, and a final gear box 8 through which the drive is transmitted to a half coupling 9 ; the box 8 is adjustable to bring the half coupling 9 to the opposite side of the cutter when the machine is working in the reverse direction. The loader comprises a transverse armoured belt 10 with de-gummers 20, loader bars 11, combs 12, and a reversible shearing jib 16, the parts projecting from the machine body being jointed thereto at 13 so as to be removable for flitting; gear boxes 14 are pivoted on each side for transmitting the drive from the half coupling 9 through a shaft 23 and half coupling 15. The de-gummers may comprise a chain conveyer 21 and deflecting shield 22; aprons 18 may be provided between the belt 10, de-gummers 20 and the face conveyer 17. The loader bar 11 at the trailing side of the loader may be removed or enclosed by a cover. A method of using the machine is described.
