Abstract
957,716. Mineral-mining machines. MINING ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. May 2, 1961 [March 24, 1960], No. 10419/60. Heading E1F. A machine for ripping out the head of an underground roadway consists of a selfadvancing chassis 14 on which a longitudinally extending hollow shaft 15b is rotatably mounted, the shaft having at the leading end an arm 15a extending at right angles to the shaft for supporting a cutter drum that is rotated about the axis of the drum by a shaft and bevel gear drive extending through the arm 15a and shaft 15b. At the leading end of the shaft is positioned a driven boring tool 32 which clears a space for the shaft during the advance of the machine after the cutter drum has cut into the head on being swung in an arc from one side to the other of the machine as the shaft is rotated by a ram mounted on the chassis actuating a ratchet drive associated with the shaft.
