Abstract

1395388 Cutter bit assembly CARMET CO 21 Sept 1972 [22 Sept 1971] 43753/72 Heading E1F A cutter bit assembly for a mining or excavating machine comprises a bit block 10 with a cylindrical bore 12 and a bit 16 with a cylindrical shank 14 rotatably retained in the bore and having a cutting tip 32 with a forward cutting edge 46 offset with respect to the axis of the cylindrical shank, so that in use the tip can rotate so that the cutting edge meets material to be mined squarely. The block 10 is adapted to be secured to a rotating head or a cutting chain. The tip 32 is retained on the bit 16 by tightening screw 38; alternatively, Fig 5 (not shown) the part (66) carrying the cutting edge may be retained by an expansible washer (73).
