Abstract

1471669 Excavating tooth assembly KENNAMETAL Inc 10 April 1974 [7 May 1973] 15833/74 Heading E1F An excavating tooth comprises a support block 10 and an excavating bit 18, the bit having a shank 20, 22 non-rotatably received in a bore 12, 14 in the block, and a working portion having a cutting edge 26 and being generally flattened in shape to assist in the removal of spoil from the working area. The spoil-engaging surface of the working portion is fluted. The shank and bore are cylindrical and are provided with abutting shoulders 24, 16, and the shank is held against rotation by means of a transverse pin 38 engaging in recesses 40 in the rear face of the support block. Alternatively, the forward end of the shank may be provided with lugs (74), Fig. 5 (not shown), which engage in corresponding recesses (76) in the forward face of the block. The excavating tooth can be used in combination with rotatable pointed bits (58, 60), Fig. 4 (not shown).
