983,095. Mineral-mining machines. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. June 13, 1961 [June 13, 1960], No. 20681/60. Heading E1F. Mounted at one end of the body 19, 20 of a mineral-mining machine is a laterally swingable, cutter chain-carrying jib 25 having at the free end a vertically upstanding, rotatable cutter drum 31, and positioned beneath the jib is conveying means 29 for carrying mined mineral to a second conveyer the trough 10 of which extends through the body of the machine to a discharge point at the rear of the body. The first conveying means 29 consists of an endless chain-carrying jib 29 rigidly secured to the underside of the jib 25 to move in unison therewith. The chain circulating about the jib 29 is provided with both cutter and loader flights and is driven together with the cutter drum 31 off the idler sprocket 26 of the jib 25. A jack-operated cable system causes as required lateral swinging of the jib 25. The machine is advanced in a step by step manner by appropriate setting and operation of jacks 46 and props 50. A further cutter chain-carrying jib 34 and cutter drum 37 may be provided, the chain 33 of the jib 34 being driven by both of the sprockets 32, 36 that are coupled to the drive of the sprocket 23 and the driven shaft of the cutter drum 31. The sprocket 32 is coupled to the cutter drum 37.
