Abstract

1,265,171. Mining machines. COAL INDUSTRY (PATENTS) Ltd. 17 March, 1970 [18 March, 1969], No. 14169/69. Heading E1F. A mining machine 22 comprises an endless driven chain 10 having abutments 20 for engaging formations 100 on a conveyor 36 so as to drive the machine along the conveyor. The chain 10 extends round a driven sprocket 30 and idler sprockets 32 and is engaged by backing rollers 108 adjustable by screws 112, and it is tensioned by ram-operated rollers 114 the rams of which are connected in the main hydraulic system so that when the drive motor is started the chain is tensioned. The abutments 20 are tapered to facilitate the machine being driven round bends in the conveyor. The machine is mounted on rollers 120, and inclined rollers 122 are provided to prevent the machine lifting from the conveyor. Side guide rollers are also provided, Fig. 9 (not shown). The abutments 20 may be in the form of recesses engaging formations in the form of teeth. In another embodiment the machine may be a shearer, Fig. 6 (not shown).
