Abstract
926,734. Mineral-mining machines. MAVOR & COULSON Ltd. Dec. 24, 1959 [Dec. 24, 1958], No. 41760/58. Class 68 (1). In a mining-machine of the kind having a kerf-forming cutter-jib extending sideways at or about floor level into the seam, an additional jib is arranged alongside the cutter-jib and carries an endless chain of mineral pushing flights which remove gummings from the kerf. As shown, the normal machine comprising a haulage gear 12, motor 11, gear case 13 and jib 22 carrying an endless cutter chain 24, has another jib 23 carrying an endless chain 40 with feathering flights 41, the feathering being effected by mounting each flight 41 on one of the links of the chain and a support 50 on the next link, the change in relative disposition of the links when rounding the driving sprocket in the gear case 13, and the semi-circular guideway 51, bringing the flights flat against the chain. The sprockets driving the cutter chain and flighted chain are connected by toothed gearing. The jibs are swingable about the axes of the chain-driving sprockets.
