Abstract

1518542 Mining machines PITCRAFT Ltd 24 May 1976 [22 May 1975] 22138/75 Heading E1F A longwall or shortwall-mining machine carries means for picking up, during use of the machine, electrical energy from an electrical conductor extending in the direction of haulage of the machine and supplying said energy to an electric motor provided within the machine for driving an endless haulage chain. Preferably one or more of such machines are mounted on a conveyer, which carries a conduit having a longitudinally extending entry slot normally closed by a flexible seal and housing an electrical conductor as described in the referred to Specifications 1508786 and 1508785 and 1508788. The pick up means extends through the seal. The chain can be a roller chain that engages with abutments, pockets or reciprocable teeth mounted on support plates secured along the conveyer as disclosed in the referred to Specification 1352543. Associated with the machine is a tank containing water for supplying cooling water to the motor and/or to spray nozzles located at the mineral cutting zones of the machine. Preferably the tank is separately mounted on the conveyer for being towed therealong by the machine and the water is pumped first to the cooling circuit of the motor and then on to the nozzles.
