Abstract

648,475. Hook bolts and rivets. COCKEN, S. May 6, 1948, No. 12471. [Class 89(ii)] [Also in Group X] Hook bolts and rivets for use in securing corrugated sheets to purlins and other profile bars have pointed ends that enable them to be used for punching the holes in the sheets during assembly. The hook is made by bending a rectangular section bar to U-shape 6 the distance between the limbs being slightly less than the thickness of the flange which the bolt 8 is to engage. The upper limb 61 is slightly longer than the lower and has welded to it a bolt 8 with pointed end 81. The hooks are hammered on to the flanges 71 in the required locations and the sheet 10 is located and lightly hammered in the vicinity of the ends 81 to make small projections visible from the upper side and a curved annular tool 11 is located round the projections and a hammer 12 is employed to cause the bolt to perforate the sheet. Fixing is completed by the usual curved washer and nut. The threads 82 may be omitted and the end 81 riveted over on to the washer.
