[Class 44] [Also in Group X] A fastener for securing two members together, particularly for securing a rubber strip to the edge of a metal sheet, e.g. a draught excluding strip to the edge of a door-opening, comprises a single strip of spring metal bent to the shape of two channels in each of which one of the two members can be engaged, a side of one of the channels being formed with at least one prong the point of which is directed internally and towards the base of that channel. A number of such fasteners are used to secure a part-tubular strip of rubber, for example, to the edge of a rigid sheet, the edge of the sheet being engaged in the pronged channel of each fastener, and one flange of the strip being held in the other channel. For use with a known form of draught excluding strip 4, Fig. 5, of part tubular section, having a central rib 7 reinforced with a perforated or weakened metal section 10, the fastener 11, Figs. 6, 7, comprises a rectangular strip of spring metal which is first formed with four shear cuts 12, 13, the sheared parts being bent in to form prongs 14-16, and the strip then bent to form a double channel section, and also to form a hook 17. A number of such fasteners is pressed on to the central rib 10 of the strip 4, the hooks 17 retaining them, and the assembly engaged with the edge of the sheet or panel by entering the latter in the pronged channels of the fasteners. the prongs effecting a secure grip. In a modified form, Figs. 9, 10, the rib of the strip is made with a shoulder 22, the prongs 24 in the fastener are formed by shearing and pressing, and a spring arm 28 is formed in the central limb and has a hooked end 29 which, when the edge of the sheet enters the channel, is pressed outwardly to enter the other channel and engage the shoulder 22. Other forms of cooperating strips and fasteners are shown in Figs. 16, 18, 21. The prongs of the fasteners may be formed by means of a punch 113, Fig. 27, of the section shown at 114. Prongs so formed lack a sharp edge, and a preferred method is to punch out an area 119, Fig 30, of the shape shown, and then bend out the tongue 120. Similar prongs are formed on the edges of the fasteners by punching out small areas and bending up the tongues so formed, as in Fig. 33.
