Abstract
480,240. Snap - fasteners. UNITEDCARR FASTENER CORPORATION. Oct. 28, 1937, No. 29483. Convention date, Nov. 24, 1936. [Class 44] A snap-fastener particularly for securing sheet material 1 to a support 2 comprises a base portion 6, preferably arched as shown, yielding inturned portions 7 substantially parallel to the base, the ends of parts 7 being bent outwards to form a pair of fingers 9. Fingers 9 have shoulders 9a directed towards the base and in use the fingers are passed through registering apertures 4, 5 in the parts 1, 2. Pressure is then applied to the parts 7 by a screw-driver or like tool 10, passed through a slot 11 in the base 6, to force the fingers through the apertures far enough to allow the shoulders to engage the lower face of support 2. As shown in Figs. 2, 3, 5, the parts 9 are substantially parallel and are capable of relative movement in scissors-like fashion to allow passage through the apertures, Fig. 3, till the shoulders 9a can snap into engagement, Fig. 5. Figs. 7, 9 show a form in which the ends of parts 9 tend to spring apart, and the engaging shoulders are formed by the ends of hook-like portions 20. With this form the aperture 5 may be elliptical, the fastener being inserted parallel to the major dimension, Fig. 7, and then rotated through a right-angle to engagement as in Fig. 9.
