Abstract
595,794. Buttons. MOUNTENEY, M. M. (formerly FURSTENBERG). March 8, 1945, No. 5756. [Class 43] A built-up button comprises front and back parts 1, 3, Fig. 1, press-fitted together and a fastener member 5 releasably interengaging the back part 3. Part 1 is covered with cloth, fabric, leather &c. 2 which is held in position between parts 1, 3. Member 5 consists of a rivet 9 engaging a hollow stud 7 and securing the fabric article 11, stud 7 coacting with a spring 6 projecting into a flanged aperture 4 in the back part 3. Stud 5 may have prongs 27, Fig. 7, to engage the article 11, or it may be sewn to the article. In a modification, the stud engages pips in the aperture 4 which may be slotted. Fig. 9 shows a fastener 29 having a T-shaped head 30 inserted through a slot 31 in the back part 32 and rotated to ride over pips 33, the head 30 or part 32 being resilient. In Fig. 11, the fastener 34 comprises a spring socket sewn to the fabric article and engaged by a press member 36 formed by a rivet 40 and hollow stud 41 securing between them the back part 38 and an ornamental disc 39. In general, the fastener may be made of metal, plastic or rubber, and in the case of rubber its resilience is used to engage with the back plate.
