Abstract

926,932. Hook fastenings. NORTH & JUDD Ltd. April 20, 1960 [April 21, 1959], No. 13907/60. Class 43. A hook fastener comprises a hook having a tongue and a base securing means extending from the base, a button formed of material that is rigid but capable of being pierced by the securing means, and a turnplate carried by the button and arranged to deform the securing means and cause them to engage the button so as to secure the hook and button together. The hook member 10 has prongs 12 and 13 which pierce the material 35 and enter an annular V-shaped groove 24 in the button 14 and pass through the button and then contact an annular groove 32 on the undersurface of the turnplate 20 which bends over the ends of the prongs to clinch the button. The turnplate snap engages within an undercut recess 16 in the button. One edge of the turnplate has a chamfer 28. The groove 24 is reinforced by four V-shaped ribs. The button may be made from plastics and the turnplate of metal. The button may have a second annular groove coaxial with groove 24 on the upper surface reinforced by four strengthening ribs. The undersurface of the turnplate may be without a groove. The hook member may have more than two prongs or incorporate a tubular rivet.
