Be it known thatLGEoRon MEZEI, a citizen of Hungary, residing at Clinchco, in the county of Dickenson and State of Virginia, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Clasps, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in clasps preferably of a type to be used for holding a watch. a
An important object of the invention is to provide a clasp of the above mentioned type which may be formed from a blank stamped from a relatively thin sheet of material such as metal, celluloid, etc.
A further object of the invention is to provide a clasp of exceedingly simple construction and one that may be placed upon the market at a very nominal cost.
Other objects and advantages of the invention will be apparent during the course of the following description.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this specification and in which like numerals are employed to designate like parts throughout the same,
Figure 1 is a front elevational view of the clasp shown in full lines with a watch illustrated in dotted lines in supported position upon the clasp,

Figure 5 is a transverse sectional view taken upon line V-V of Fig. 2,

Figure 7 is an elevational view of the blank from which the clasp is ultimately formed.
In the drawing, wherein for the purpose of illustration is shown a preferred embodiment of this invention, the numeral 5 in Figs. 1 to 6 inclusive designates the body portion of the clasp which is formed with a resilient latch 6 out therefrom and bent outwardly to assume an acute angle in respect to the plane of the body portion. This resilient latch 6 is provided with an enlarged, semi-circular head portion 7, the utility of which will be set forth at a later point. The lower end of the body portion 5 of this clasp is provided with spaced legs 8 which are provided, with the remaining portion of the body 5, with apertures 9 through which suitable fastening means, such as screws or tacks, are to be inserted for securing the clasp to a support. Extending upwardly from the body portion of the clasp and starting at a point between the spaced depending legs 8 is an S-shaped hook 10 having a notch 11 formed in the outer end thereof.
In Fig. 7 there is shown a blank which is designated in general by the numeral 12 and is to be formed from a suitable sheet of relatively thin material by a stamping operation. During the stamping out of this blank, thelatch 6 and its enlarged head 7 are formed and the slots 14 are provided for separating the strip 15 from the legs 8. The notch 11 is also formed and the apertures 9 are provided in the body portion and depending spaced legs during this stamping operation. It will be seen that the strip 15 may be bent upwardly into S- shape for forming the S- haped hook 10 previously referred to.
It will be seen by inspecting Figs. 1 and 2 that the S-shaped hook 10 is intended to be positioned for having the resilient latch 6 positioned within the notch 11 formed in the said hook. The enlarged, semi-circular head 7 of this resilient latch 6 is intended to engage the outer face of the end of the hook 10, as illustrated.
In Figs. 1, 2, 3 and 6 there is illustrated a watch positioned in different relations in respect to the clasp and these dilferent positions are intended to illustrate the manner of attaching or detaching the ring portion 16 of the watch 17 to the S-shaped hook 10. In Fig. 3 the ring is illustrated as being positioned between the outer transverse edge of the S-shaped hook 10 and the lower face of the resilient latch 6. This latch 6 is intended to be forced outwardly away from the transverse end edge of the hook 10 by the ring 16 of the watch 17 for permitting said ring to pass inwardly between the hook l0 and latch 6. After the ring has passed between these elements, the same may be easily forced downwardly over the S-shaped hookend until the said ring is resting upon the lower portion of the hook.
It is to be understood that the form of this invention herewith shown and described is to be taken as a preferred example of the same, and that various changes in the shape, size, and arrangement of parts may be resorted to without departing from the spirit of the invention or the scope of the subjoined claim.
