i iivvisiitii TIE HOLDER.
To all whom if may concern Be it known that we, GEORGE E. POTTER and ELviE L. POTTER, citizens of the United States, and residents of Chicago, in the county of Cook and Stateof Illinois, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Invisible Tie Holders, of which the follow-V ing is a full, clear, and exact description.
Our invention relates to improvements in Adevices for holding a neck tie in adjusted position with respect to a shirt, and it consists in the combinations, constructions and arrangements herein described and claimed.
An object of our invention is` to provide a tie holder that is adapted to hold va tie of the four-in-hand type in a desired position with respect to a shirt without being visible.
A further object of our invention is to provide a tie holder that is formed iii one piece and is adapted to detachably secure a tie to a shirt while being concealed by the tie.
AV further object provide a device of of our invention is to the character described that can be quickly and easily applied to a shirt and tie or detached therefrom, f and which has means forV preventing its accidental displacement from the shirt and tie. A further object of our invention is to provide a device of the character described that is simple in construction, capable of being manufactured cheaply, and thoroughly practical commercially. i Other objects and advantages willappear in the following specification, and the novel features of the invention will be particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
Our invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawings, forming part of this application, in which- Figure i is a view, showing the device operatively applied.
Figure 2 is L, Perspective View 0f the-de A' vice, and n Figure 3 is a section through a shirt and tie, showing the holder in adjusted position with respect thereto.
In carrying out our invention, we provide 'l is sharpened at its end i and is sinuous invform adjacent to its sharpened end or point, as at 5. The clamping portion 3 is arranged portion `portion one into the other.

to normally contactfthe pin portion lL atwa 5 In service, the pin portion i is projected from the under side through the under portion 9 of the tie, that is, the-portion con-A through the under tiguous to the shirt, and
l() of the tie withply of the'upper portion out being projected entirely through the latter. The pin portion l will remain in the position in which illustrated in'Fi'g. 3 until withdrawn therefrom by hand, both on account of the engagement of the sinuous portion 5 with the fabric of the tie and on account of the fact that the portions of the tie through which the pin has been projected are Vclamped at 6 between the pinvportion l and the spring clamping portion. The U- shaped clamping loop with the arms thereof straddling an edge portion 1l of a shirt. Obviously, the edge il will be clampedbetween the arms of the substantially U-shape'd clamping loop 7 since these arms normally contact one an-` other adjacent to their extremities.
W/hen the pin portion l is projected into a four-in-hand tiek intermediate its side edges, asillustrated, the outer portion of 7 is then arrangedv sev the tie will cover the entire holder, which will be clamped in the manner described to the shirt and to the tie to maintain the tie in adj usted position with respect to the shirt without it being apparent to any one that a tie holder is being used. The device can be readily applied `and as readily detached without injuring either Vthe tie l. A tie'holder comprising a single piece -of wire formed toprovide a pin portion, a
clamping portion arrangedv to extendv substantially at rioht angles to the pin portion and bent substantially into U-shape adjacent to its extremity, and a spring portion merging the pinl portion and the clamping oi' the shirt A 2;' A tie holder comprising asingle.V piece Y Y of. wire formed to provide a substantially straight pin portion, said pin vportion being sinuous adjacent to its end, a clamping portion bent into a ysubstantially U-shaped loop iio adjacent to its extremity, said loop being arranged to extend substantially at right an 10 ing portion one into the otherfsaid clamping portion beingarrangedtonormally contact the pin portion atv a p'ointvabout one- -third the distance-to its extremityrand thenV being bent laterally of the pin portion'and formed Vinto a substantially U-sliaped loop, the arme of said loop being arranged to normally Contact each other adjacent to their extremities.
