Description
Oct. 4, 1932. 1 1,881,039
HOLDER FOR THE POINTS OF'SOFT COLLARS Filed Sept. 10. 1930' Patented Oct. 4, 1932 UNITED STATES PATENT or-rlcla LAWRENCE. E. BAER, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS, ASSIGNOR T BABE 8a WILDE COMPANY, OF ATTLEBORO, MASSACHUSETTS HOLDER FOR THE POINTS OF SOFT COLLAIRS Application filed September 10, 1930. Serial No. 480,832.
This invention relates to holders for the points of soft collars, and the primary object thereof is to provide a holder of this type which can be applied as an attachment to the usual soft collar holders of known manufacture or which can be permanently attached to such collar holders at the time of manufacture as may be desired.
A further object of the invention is to provide a holder of this type which in use is concealed and which permits movement of the points should same be subjected to pressure and restoration of the points to normal position upon release of the pressure.
The invention further aims to provide a device of this type which is of simple and economical construction and which can be easily and quickly applied to collar holders without modification of the latter. In the drawing:
Figure 1 is a rear elevation of the invention applied to the soft collar, the latter shown in dotted lines.
Figure 2 is a top plan view;
Figure 3.is a section on line 3-3 of Figure 1,
Figure 4 is a top plan view of a modified form of the invention; and
Figure 5 is a section on line 55 of Figure 4.
In proceeding in accordance with the present invention a collar holder is shown by way of example, composed of the usual front bar 1 and rear bar 2 between the ends of which the ends of the soft collar are gripped, as is well known and understood in the art. The present invention resides in the provision of a clip 3 having jaws 4 and 5 which latter are designed to be clampingly engaged with the central portion of the collar holder. The ends of the back of the clip 3 are extended outwardly and are bent into substantially closed form so as to provide a pair of eyes 6". A substantially inverted U shaped spring wire member is provided with legs 7 the end portions of which are bent into substantially circular formation or rings 8 while the terminals 9 are sharpened so as to readily penetrate the long points of the soft collar and are offset from the plane of the circular portions and extend substantially diametrically thereof, terminating within the central portions so that the latter act to protect the sharpened points as is obvious.
The member 10 is provided with a substan- 5 tially U-shaped configuration at the center of the top, the ends 11 of which are received within the eyes.
From the foregoing it will be seen that the device can be readily applied to collar holders of varying manufactures as an attachment or may be permanently secured.
It will further be seen that the invention occupies a concealed relation to the collar points, and at the same time holds same in 5 position while still permitting movement of the points due to the spring nature of the wire, and return of the points to normal position upon release of any pressure of the points which cause same to deviate from their normal position.
In the modified form of the invention shown in Figures at and 5 the central portion 14 of the spring wire 15 is disposed within and secured by the usual binding clip 16 of the front and rear bars 17 and 18 of the collar holder, whereby the spring wire is permanently attached to the collar holder at the time of manufacture of the latter.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is Y 1. In combination with asoft collar holder, a clip formed for clamping engagement with the holder and having eyes at its ends, a spring wire of inverted and substantially U-shape having its legs formed into ring shape and its terminals sharpened to provide points which latter are disposed offset from he rings and lie within the latter, the top of the U-wire having a substantially U- shaped central portion the ends of which latter are engaged Within the respective eyes.
2. In combination with a soft collar holder, a clip formed for clamping engagement with the holder, a spring wire of inverted substantially U-shapc having collar point engaging prongs on the ends of its legs and means to secure the central part of the top of the wire to the clip.
3. In combination with a soft collar holder, a clip formed for clamping engagement with the holder, a spring wire having parts to en gage and hold each of the points of thecollar in position, and means to secure the wire to the clip.
4. In combination with a soft collar holder having means to engage each of the collar ends at the upper part of the collar, a pairwot spring wire members independent of said first named means and having means to engage and hold the collar points in position, and means to secure said members to. the collar holder.
5. In combination with a soft collar hold-- er, a pair of spring wire members having-substantially circular open parts and pointed terminals extending toward the centers of the open parts to engage and hold the collar points in position, and means to secure the members to the collar holder.
6. In combination with a soft collar holder having means to engage each of the collar ends at the upper part of the collar, an inverted U-wire independent of said first named means and having its ends bent into open collar engaging parts and provided with prongs, and means to secure the wire to ,the collar holder in depending relation there- In combination with a soft collar hold- 'ei havin means to engage each of the collar J ends at t e upper part of the collar, a clamp to engagethe holder, and meanscarried by fthe clamp'to engage and hold each of the collar polntsfin position.
8. In combination with a collar holder having frontoand rear bars, and a clip for bindingsarne together'at their centers, a collar point engaging wire received in and held by the clip in position.
9. In combination with a relatively stifi collar holder having means removably and directly engageable with each of the ends of the collar at the upper portion of the collar,
- means independent of said first named means and carried by said collar holder and pro jecting downwardly therefrom and formed to engage each of the collar points.
10. In combination with a collar holder having front and rear spring bars and means' to connect said bars whereby the same will grip and hold the ends of the collar therebetween at the upper portion of the collar, means carried by said connecting means and depending therefrom and formed to engage each of the collar points.
11. In devices for holding the Wings of a I
