Description

Sept. 26, 1939.
J. w. PUGH TIE HOLDER AND GUIDE Filed Sept. 12, 1938 BY W ATTO R N EYS Patented Sept. 26, 1939 UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE TIE. HOLDER AND GUIDE Application September 12, 1938, Serial No. 229,635
2 Claims.
My invention relates to a necktie attachment and is especially directed to a device operative as both a guide and a means of maintaining the knot of the necktie in a desired adjusted position against slipping and has as one of the principal objects thereof the provision of such a device which is simple in construction, durable in use, efiicient in operation and economical in manufacture.
Another object of my invention is to provide a device of the character described capable of being readily attached to a necktie in a manner to preclude puncturing, marring or otherwise deforming said necktie.
Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description, appended claims and annexed drawing.
Referring to the drawing wherein like reference characters designate like parts throughout the several views:
Figure 1 is a front elevation of my invention illustrating the same in position for receiving thereon the knot of a necktie, the tie being illustrated in dotted lines and in untied condition.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of my invention illustrating the latter in attached condition, the necktie being in knotted condition.
Figure 3 is an enlarged front elevation of my invention.
Figure 4 is a top plan view of my invention.
Figure 5 is a detail side elevation thereof.
In practicing my invention I provide a length of semi-resilient wire 5 bent midway of its ends 6 as shown at 1 to provide a pair of spaced parallel upwardly extending knot supporting sections 8, the upper ends of which are inwardly and rearwardly disposed and connected together by a clip 9 and said ends extend laterally of said clip to form a pair of oppositely extending arcuate shaped arms IQ terminating in the ends 5 heretofore set forth. Adjacent the clip 9 the arms are inwardly offset and said ends 6 are outwardly offset for a purpose hereinafter set forth.
The ends 6 are fastened with vertically disposed looped sections H, the latter constituting a pair of inwardly and outwardly spaced arms i2 and i3 respectively, the outer arms [3 extending an appreciable distance below the arms l2 as clearly illustrated in Figures 1, 2, 3 and 5 of the drawing. The upper section of the arms l2 and i3 taper upwardly and outwardly relative to each other whereby to provide a clamping means therebetween at the jointure of the arms I2 with the arms It. The sections 8 are disposed downwardly and outwardly relative to the arms i9 and thus when the run of a necktie is inserted between the arms l2 and i3 and clamped thereby and a knot formed by said run over the sections 8 to dispose the latter within the folds of said knot, said sections 8 will support the knot outwardly and downwardly in an adjusted position relative to the arms Hi. It is to be understood that the arms ID are disposed inwardly of the tie run adjacent the neckband of a shirt about 10 which the necktie is secured.
From the foregoing it will be apparent that I have provided a simple and effective tie guide and holder whereby the knot thereof formed in the tie may be readily maintained in a desired adjusted position against slipping.
It is to be distinctly understood that various changes and modifications may be resorted to in the construction and arrangement of the parts without departing from the spirit of the invention or scope of the appended claims.
What I claim is:
1. A device of the character described, comprising, a strand of resilient wire fashioned intermediate the length thereof with a pair of upwardly and inwardly extending spaced parallel tie knot supporting sections having upper end portions disposed towards each other, a clip connecting said portions together, said strand on each side of the ends thereof formed with a pair of substantially vertically disposed arms adapted to receive therebetween and coact with each other the run of a tie for maintaining the latter in adjusted position when knotted and supported on said supporting sections.
2. A device of the character described, comprising, a strand of resilient wire fashioned intermediate the length thereof with a pair of connected upwardly and inwardly extending spaced parallel tie knot supporting sections and on each side of the ends thereof with a pair of substantially vertically disposed arms adapted to receive therebetween and coact with each other the run of a tie for maintaining the latter in adjusted position when knotted and supported on said supporting sections, said wire fashioned with arcuate shaped sections between said ends and said supporting sections, said arcuate shaped sections formed with offset portions for disposing said ends in proximity to a neckband about which the tie is attached in a manner to preclude outward bulging of the portions of said tie overlying said arcuate shaped sections,
