Description

M M, W24. 1,515,426
N. .1. BISHOP TROUSERS CREASER AND HOLDER Filed Sept. 25, 1922 Patented Nov. ll, 1924.
UNITED STATES NEWTON J. BISHOP, OF ST. LOUIS, MISSOURI.
TROUSERS CBEASER AND HOLDER.
Application filed. September 25, 1922. Serial No. 590,414.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, NEWTON J. BrsHor, a citizen of the United States, residing at St. Louis, State oi Missouri, have invented a a new and useful Trousers Crease-r and Holder, of which the following is a speciiication.
This invention relates to a combined garment creaser and holder, the primary object of the invention being to provide a device of this character having novel means for causing the body portion of the device to exert a pressure on the garment to crease the same.
Another object of the invention is to construct one end of the creaser to form a hook member by means of which the device, together with the article supported thereon, may be positioned over a hook or like.
\Vith the foregoing and other objects in view which will appear as the description proceeds, the invention resides in the combination and arrangement of parts and in the details of construction hereinafter described and claimed, it being understood that changes in the precise embodiment of the invention herein disclosed, may he made within the scope of what is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
Referring to the drawing:
Figur 1 is an elevational view of a deice constructed in accordance with the present invention and showing in dotted lines, the leg of trousers as positioned over the device.
Figure 2 is an elevational view of one edge of the device.
Referring to the drawing in detail, the
device embodies a length of wire bent inlength providing a series of curved portions 5, the central loop portion being relatively long to provide means for positioning over a hook to support the device.
Opposed arms 6 form the body portion of the device, the curved portions 5 disposed at one of the respective ends thereof being designed to normally exert a lateral pressure on the arms 6, to urge the same away from each other.
Formed integral with each arm 6 is an termediate its body portion inwardly extending end portion 7 terminating in a loop portion 8, the end portions being disposed in parallel relation with each other.
A coiled spring indicated at 9 has its ends secured to the loop portions 8 and tends to urge the loop portions 8 towards each other to the end that the arms 6 are forced away from each other. Carried by each end portion 7 adjacent to the loop thereof is a ring member 10 that accommodates the adjacent end portion providing a guide therefor, so that the ring members will guide the ends 7 and hold them in alignment with each other at all times.
In the use of the device, the arms 6 are pressed towards each other, whereupon they are inserted in a trousers leg. The trousers are now dampened at the point of contact of the arms 6 so that as the arms 6 are pressed into engagement with the trousers leg, a crease will he formed therein.
When the arms are in their active positions, the spring 9 forces the arms away from each other and into close engagement with the trousers. It is to be understood that on the placing of the device, the arms should be positioned as near as possible in the crease of a trousers leg.
What is claimed as new is In a device of the character described, a including a length of wire bent intermediate its ends, to provide opposed arms, the intermediate portion of the length of wire being formed into a plurality of curved portions to lend resiliency to the arms, the free ends of the arms extending inwardly and overlying each other, the extremities of the inwardly extended portions being formed into loops, a coiled spring disposed between the loops for normally urging the arms away from each other, and ring members carried by each loop portion and adapted to embrace portions of the adjacent inwardly extended end portion to guide the movements of the arms.
In testimony that I claim the foregoing as my own, I have hereto aflixed my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
NElVTON J. BISHOP.
Witnesses H. H. TUssnY, J. M. GAMBIE.
