SHOULDER S TRAP HOLDER Filed July 15, 1940 Vrnie Eva/2s I INVENTOR ATTORNEYS Patented Aug. 19, 1941 .1 PATENT OFFICE snonnnnn-srnan'nonnnn Vernie Evans, El'Reno; Okla.
Application July 15, 1940, Serial No. 345,626
2 Claims.
This invention relates to a device adapted to prevent shoulder straps of underwear, or the like, from slipping from the wearer's shoulders.
One object of the invention is to provide a should-er strap holder which is equally effective whether it is in horizontal or vertical position.
Another object of the invention is to provide a strap holder which is easily applied to or removed from an outer garment and in which a shoulder strap may be easily inserted or removed.
A further object of the invention is to provide a shoulder strap holding means which may be manufactured several in a package within the financial reach of all classes of persons.
A further object is to provide apparatus of this character which will be formed of a few strong, simple and durable parts, which will be inexpensive to manufacture and which will not easily get out of order.
With the above and other objects in view the invention consists of certain novel details of construction and combinations of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, it being understood that various modifications may be resorted to within the scope of the appended claims without departing from the spirit or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention.
In the accompanying drawing forming a part of this. specification:
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the preferred form applied to an outer garment to suspend an undergarment in accordance with the invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevation of the form of the invention shown in Figure 1.
Figure 3 is a perspective view of a modified form of the invention.
Figure 4 is a perspective view of another modified form of the invention.
Figure 5 is a perspective view of another.
modified form of the invention.
Referring now to the drawing in which like characters of reference designate similar parts in the various views, a substantially U-shaped member Ill formed of spring wire is provided with an outwardly bent terminal hook ll formed on one of the legs l2 of the U-shaped member [0. The other leg 13 of the member ID is relatively longer than the leg l2 and it is looped intermediate its ends as shown at HLthe loop being disposed above the middle of the U-shaped member and the portion of the leg extending from the loop projects in the direction of the hook H and follows the inner contour of the member l0, spaced uniformly therefrom, and terminates in tightly wound convolutions l5 which are disposed eccentrically within and relative to the member Hi.
The hook ll is adapted to pierce a portion of an outer garment Hi to thread through the fabric of the garment until the member is suspended by the loop M as shown in Figure 1.
An under garment shoulder strap i1 is adapted to be passed between the leg l2 and the extended portion of the leg l3 following the inner contour of the member to rest on the extended portion and having one of its longitudinal edges disposed to underlie the convolutions l5.
A second form of the invention is shown in Figure 3 and comprises a length of spring wire bent to provide a substantially U-shaped member l8 having one of its leg portions terminating in an outwardly disposed eye IS. The other leg portion 2| is looped intermediate of its length as shown at 22 to extend toward and then away from the eye l9 and cross the leg 2| and terminate parallel to and spaced relatively to the leg 2! adjacent the loop 22.
A third form of the invention is shown in Figure 4, and comprises a substantially U-shaped member 23 formed of a single length of wire bent in shape and provided with an outwardly disposed eye 24 on one of its leg portions 25. The other leg portion 26 terminates short of the eye 24 in an outwardly disposed loop 21, having a corrugation 28 and a straight extremity 29 which cooperates with the leg 26 to form a jaw which is adapted to receive a portion of an outer garment and be suspended thereby. The U-shaped member 23 is adapted to receive a shoulder strap of an under garment passed between the eye 24 and the loop 21 to be retained within the member 23.
A fourth form of the invention shown in Figure 5 is similar to the third form of the invention shown in Figure 4. This fourth form of the invention is formed of a length of spring wire bent to provide a U-shaped member 30 having one of its leg portions 3| terminating in an eye 32 short of the other leg portion 33 which has a helical coil 34 formed intermediate of its length. The coil urges a pointed straight extremity to underlie an integral hook formed on the leg portion between the helical coil 34 and the arcuate portion of the U-shaped member 30. This form is pinned to an outer garment, and a shoulder strap of an under garment is received between the eye 32 and the helical coil portion 34 to be retained within the member 30.
All forms of the invention are adapted to lurevent displacement of shoulder straps of under garments from the users shoulders and will perform equally well when the outer garment is spaced from the shoulder strap, as when the member is sandwiched between and disposed relatively parallel to the outer garment and shoulder strap.
From the above description it is thought that the construction and operation of the invention will be fully understood without further explan-ation. J i i What is claimed is:
l. A device of the character described comprisg ,ing a single length of wire fashioned into a substantially U-shaped member having--leg portions, one of said legs terminating in an out; 5'
wardly directed hook, the other leg forming a loop intermediate its length disposed above said hook and following the inner contour of the member and terminating in tightly wound convolutions, said convolutions being disposed eccentrically within the member.
2. A strap holder comprising a single U-shaped length of wire having legs, one of said legs being twisted intermediate its ends to form a loop, said leg-extending from the loop inthe direction of the other of the legs and; curving inwardly to follow the contour thereof, the end of the lastmentioned inwardly curving portion being bent abruptly inwardly to overhang and retain a strap passing centrally through the wire.
