A. q-LANG ATTACHING DEVICE Filed April 8, 1924 Patented June 16, 1925.
UNITED STATES T 1,542,706" PATENT OFFICE.
ARCHIBKLD C. LANG, OF LEETSDALE; PENNSYLVANIA.
ATTACHING DEVICE. i
\J Application filed April 8, 1924a Serial No. 705,059.
To-all whom it may comm;
-Be it known that I, AR HIBALD C. LANG, a citizenof the Un'ted States, residing at Leetsdale in the county of Allegheny and '5 State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain a device for fastening ornaments to and improved device of that kind for con-' ristmas trees, and aims to provide anovel veniently and efficiently attaching, holding,
and detaching ornaments from a Christmas tree.
Another object is the provision of a novel ornament fastener, that is made of a single strand of spring wire, having a m1n1- mum amount of steps in the manipulation of the wire during the formation thereof, so as to rovide a-device that is simple and substantial in construction, which can be be thoroughly eflicient an practical in use.'
3, instead of having both legs 6 and'7 di- 95 verging at the portions 16 and 17, only one mediate its ends, to provide a loo manufactured economicall and which will With the foregoing and other ob'ectsin view, which willbe apparent as the escription proceeds, the invention resides in the construction and arrangement of parts, as
hereinafter described and claimed, it being understoodthat changes can be made within the scope ofwhat is claimed, without departing from the spirit of the invention.
The invention is illustrated in the accom- 'panying drawing, wherein:
Flgure 1 1s a perspective view showing two forms of my device applied, to the limbofatree, v
Figure 2 is a side view of the preferred form of mydevioe, and
Figure 3 is a side view of a modified form.
Referring to the. drawing, my improved v device consists of a single strand of s ring wire having a rounding bent portion nte'r- 5 and a ,pair of legs. 6 and 7. The wire after -forming the loop' 5 hasf'the leg's6 and 7 extending away therefrom adjacent and-parallel to one another as at 8and 9, for a vshort distance, when the legs 6 and 7 are continued diverging from one another as shown by the numerals 1 0and 11 until they are spaced a short distance apart approxiand is then bent upon itself to mately the same as the straight parallel pbr tions 8 and 9, and are then converged as at 12 and 13 to provide a loop of considerable- SIZE a distance similar, to the portions 8 and 9, and are again diverged from ,each other as shown at 16 and 17 for alike distance, and I provided with small loops have their ends 18 and 19.
y 1 1 In operation,- one of the legs 6 or '7 vis adapted to he slipped through the ring 20 of an ornament 21 until the ring 20 is relegs 6 and 7 apart until thelimb 22 is received in the large loop formed by the diverging and converging portions 10, 11, 12,
and 13.
When it is desired to remove the ornhment from the tree, pull is exerted on the device, the converging portions 12 and 13 engaging the limb 22 Wlll separate the legs 6 and 7 and allow the device to be removed. In the modified form as shown in Figure legdiverges, while the other leg extends strai ht a short distance as shown at 23, rovide a loop 24, similar to the-loop 5. A
and the end thereof is then diverged as at 26 for a" short distance.
merely aids in the spring action of the legs,
while the loop I24: receives the ring ofltho ornament. I I
While I have shown and described my 120 device for use in attaching ornaments to Christmas trees, it is to be understood that same can be usedfor various purposes, such as han 'ng u show cards, placing price tags on clot ing, anging up paper lanterns, etc.,
without departing from t e spirit of the invention. Y
Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new is:
Anattaching device formed from a single strand' of wire bent upon itself at points spaced from its and extremities to form The legs 6 and 7 then are again ar- 60 ranged adjacent and parallel to each other= as indicated by the numerals Hand 15 for v r form 94 .mg the loop 24 the strand o f'wire lies parallel and adjacent the portion 23 as at 25,
eyes the form of curved loops, the end strand of wire throughout its length lying 10 extremities of the strand wire diverging in the same plane. v
from each other in opposite direction and In testimon whereof, I have aflixed' my being disposed aggroximately parallel with signature in t e presence of two witnesses. each other and ing located between the 5 ARC said loops, the intermediate side portlons HIE LANG- of the wire located between the said end Witnesses: extremities and one of the said loops be- L.
